Why send cold email from a second domain
Many senders keep cold email off their main domain, so that if a campaign draws spam complaints the reputation hit lands on the sending domain and not on the one their invoices, staff and customers rely on. The usual pattern is your brand with a short word before or after it, on .com where you can, forwarded to your main website so anyone who checks it lands somewhere real.
How the check works
We build 15 names from your brand and ask DNS for each one's name servers, all inside one 6-second budget. A registered domain almost always has name servers. A name with no DNS record (NXDOMAIN) is often unregistered, but not always: a domain can be registered and on hold, or reserved by the registry. Only a registrar can say whether it is for sale, and at what price. Nothing you type is stored.
Setting up each new domain
- Publish SPF, DKIM and DMARC before the first email: use the SPF record generator and the DMARC record generator, then confirm with the SPF and DMARC checker and the DKIM checker.
- Warm each inbox up slowly: the email warmup schedule lays out the weeks.
- Work out how many domains a volume needs with the cold email calculator (it plans 3 inboxes per domain).
- Pick names for your own brand only. A name that imitates another company's brand can break trademark law and your email provider's terms.

Questions
Many senders do, so a reputation problem on the sending domain cannot reach the main domain their everyday email uses.
Your brand with a short word added, such as getbrand.com or trybrand.com, on .com where you can. Recipients see it, so keep it clearly yours.
Not for certain. Most unregistered names have no DNS record, but a registered domain on hold can have none too. Check at a registrar before you plan on it.
It depends on volume. The cold email calculator divides daily sends by a per-inbox limit and plans 3 inboxes per domain.
