How to write one that works
Say what you do and where in the first sentence, then the main services, then why customers pick you. Only the start of the description may show before someone expands it, so this tool puts the trade, city and main services in the first 250 characters. Use plain words people search for, such as "roof repair in Dallas", and do not repeat the business name or city over and over.
The description is written from what you type; nothing is looked up or stored.

Questions
Up to 750 characters, according to Google's Business Profile help. Put the key facts in the first 250 or so, since only the start may show at first.
No. Google's guidelines allow no links of any type, and the description must not focus on promotions, prices or sales. Your website and phone number have their own fields.
What you do, where, your main services, how long you have been in business and what makes you different, in plain sentences.
Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. A clear description of your services helps people, and Google, understand what you do.
