A cold call script for selling websites / web design to local businesses: open, ask for 30 seconds, say why you called, ask two questions, handle 5 objections and book the next step.

Opener
Hi, is this the owner of [the business name]? This is [your name]. I build websites for local businesses around [their town].
Permission
I'm calling out of the blue, so I'll be quick. Can I have 30 seconds to tell you why I called, and then you can tell me if it's worth talking?
Why you called
I noticed [the business name] doesn't list a website on Google. That matters because when someone finds you and wants to see your work, the phone number is the only place to go. I'd like to send you a free mock-up of a homepage with your name and reviews on it, no charge.
Discovery questions
Where do most of your jobs come from now: referrals, Google, or something else?
When someone hears about you, where do they go to check you out?
"Not interested"
No problem. Can I ask, is that because it's handled already, or just not a priority right now? Either answer is fine.
"Just send me some info"
Happy to. Rather than a brochure, I'll send a free mock-up of a homepage with your name and reviews on it. What's the best email for it? And is [day] or [day] better for a two-minute follow-up?
"How much is it?"
A simple site with your services, photos, reviews and a tap-to-call button is [your price], live in [your turnaround]. I'd rather you see a free mock-up of a homepage with your name and reviews on it first, so you're judging something real.
"We already have someone"
Good. When did you last update it? If it isn't on your Google listing, people who find you there can't see it.
"I'm busy, call me back"
Of course. Is tomorrow morning or afternoon better? I'll keep it to two minutes.
Close
Great. I'll send a free mock-up of a homepage with your name and reviews on it to [their email] today, and call you on [day] at [time] to hear what you think. Does that work?
Gatekeeper
Hi, this is [your name]. I'm calling for the owner about [the business name]'s Google listing. Who's the best person for that, and when are they usually in?
Voicemail, under 25 seconds
Hi, this is [your name], calling for the owner of [the business name]. I build websites for local businesses around [their town], and I'd like to send you a free mock-up of a homepage with your name and reviews on it. My number is [your number], that's [your number]. Thanks.

Dial by hand and stop the moment someone asks you to. Many small-business numbers are the owner's mobile, and US law (the TCPA) needs prior consent before an autodialled or prerecorded call or a marketing text to a mobile. Text in [brackets] is for you to fill in with something true.

How the script is built

Every script runs the same order: say who you are, ask permission for 30 seconds, give one true reason for the call, ask two questions and listen, then book one small next step. The words change with what you sell and the trade you call. Anything about the business itself stays in [brackets] for you to fill from its own listing before you dial.

Questions

How do you start a cold call to a business owner?

Say your name and why you called in one line, then ask for 30 seconds. Asking permission lowers the guard and gives them an easy way to say yes.

How do you handle "just send me some info"?

Offer something specific instead of a brochure, such as a mock-up or three fixes, and book a short follow-up call before you hang up.

What should a cold call voicemail say?

Your name, who you help, one free thing you'd like to send, and your number twice. Keep it under 25 seconds.

Is it legal to cold call businesses?

Dial by hand and stop when asked. Many small-business numbers are mobiles, and the TCPA needs prior consent before an autodialled or prerecorded call or a marketing text to a mobile.
