Selling to tree service companies: how to find them and reach the owner

To sell to tree service companies, plan for small, owner-run firms spread across small towns and suburbs rather than big-city offices: about 93% of the landscaping establishments the Census files them under have fewer than 20 employees. The 67Leads warehouse holds 43,561 sellable tree services, 6,207 of them with an email the mail server confirmed. Email the verified group, call the rest, and do not read much into a perfect 5.0 rating: 49% of tree services rated 5.0 have 9 reviews or fewer.

How many tree service companies are there?

There is no clean government count. The Census does not give tree work its own industry code: tree services are filed under NAICS 561730, Landscaping Services, alongside lawn care and landscape contractors. County Business Patterns counts about 117,969 landscaping establishments with payroll in 2023, about 93% with fewer than 20 employees (US Census Bureau), and the 2023 Nonemployer Statistics count about 516,572 landscaping businesses with no employees (Census NES 2023). Tree services are a part of both numbers, and nobody publishes how large a part.

What we can count is what we hold: 43,561 sellable tree service companies, from public business listings and company websites, each graded against the trade. Tree is the deepest trade in our warehouse. The tree service lead list and the tree service statistics page carry live counts by state and city.

Who sells to tree services

The selling to tree services use case has the filters for each buyer.

One search-term trap

If you search the web for "tree service leads", you will mostly find companies selling homeowner jobs to tree services, not lists of tree services for people who sell to them. The terms that match a seller's intent are "tree service companies email list" and "list of tree service companies". When we reviewed that results page in November 2026 it was led by a list vendor, competitor city pages and municipal PDFs, not by a deep national list.

In our data, tree services are spread across small towns and suburbs more than concentrated in big cities, so state and metro area are the useful units for this trade. A list for one city proper will be short; a list for a metro's surrounding counties will not.

What the 5.0 ratings hide

Tree service ratings bunch at the top of the scale (compare the median and the perfect-5.0 share with every trade in the table above), and that makes rating a poor filter. Today 21,571 tree services have a perfect 5.0, and 10,659 of those (49%) have 9 reviews or fewer. A 5.0 on four reviews says the owner asked four happy customers. It does not separate a busy, established firm from a new one.

Use review count instead. Our review stats by trade has the full distribution. For most offers, a tree service with 50 or more reviews has a track record, whatever its rating. And 19,302 tree services (44%) have 9 reviews or fewer, which is the review agency's list.

The no-website group

For web designers, the strongest tree list is the businesses that have customers and no site:

Those businesses get found on the map and then have nowhere to send a customer who wants to see past work. The tree services without a website page tracks them live, and our guide to finding businesses without websites explains the method. We read emails from company websites, so the no-website group has no email in our data: call or mail it.

Off-trade listings

Tree is the trade where we learned to grade listings. A map search for tree services also returns plant nurseries, Christmas tree farms, landscapers, firewood sellers and, on our first pass, a golf club with "tree" in its name. Across what we have collected for tree, 2,508 listings (5%) were graded off-trade and withheld. Our off-trade listings study has the breakdown by trade.

How to reach the owner

Email the verified group

The owner of a small tree service may also be the person running the crew, so expect replies outside working hours.

Send verified addresses first and keep catch-all addresses in a smaller, separate batch. Our guide on how to verify a lead list explains why.

Call the rest

Expect voicemail during working hours. Leave a short message, call back at a different time, and do not follow up with automated texts.

Mind the mobile numbers

A one-crew tree service's listed number may be the owner's own mobile. Autodialed texts to a mobile need prior express consent under federal law, with damages of $500 to $1,500 per text (47 USC 227). Texas also requires registration for text solicitations since 1 September 2025 (SB 140); our roofing guide explains the registration rules. Email under CAN-SPAM, which covers business email too (FTC), is the lower-risk channel.

Timing

Tree work follows the weather and the seasons, and storm work can fill an owner's week without notice. Short emails that can be answered in one line do better than requests for a call. If your offer saves time in a busy period, sell it before the busy period.

A plan for your first 100 tree services

  1. Pick one state, or a metro and its surrounding counties.
  2. Split the list: verified email, no website with 10+ reviews, dead website, phone only.
  3. Email the verified group, by owner name where you have it.
  4. Call the no-website group, best-reviewed first.
  5. Email or call the dead-website group about the broken site.
  6. After 100 contacts, keep the group that answered.

Questions

How many tree service companies are in the US?

No government source counts them separately: the Census files tree services inside landscaping (NAICS 561730), which has about 117,969 establishments with payroll in 2023. The 67Leads warehouse holds 43,561 sellable tree service companies today.

How do I get a tree service companies email list?

Search by state, county or city on the tree service lead list. Counts are free; 6,207 tree services currently have a mail-server-verified email in our data.

Are tree service ratings reliable for targeting?

Not on their own. 49% of tree services with a perfect 5.0 have 9 reviews or fewer, so filter by review count first.
