Selling to roofing companies: who sells to them, and how to reach the owner

To sell to roofing companies, start with the size of the market and the owner: the US Census Bureau counts 25,519 roofing contractor establishments with paid employees (NAICS 238160, 2023), and about 90% of them have fewer than 20 employees, so the owner is usually the buyer. Email the ones with a published address, call the rest, and keep texting out of it unless you have consent.

How many roofing companies are there?

Census County Business Patterns counts 25,519 establishments under NAICS 238160, Roofing Contractors, summing the 2023 state file (US Census Bureau). That counts business locations with paid employees, so one-person roofers with no payroll are not in it. In the same 2023 data about 90% of roofing establishments have fewer than 20 employees. The 67Leads warehouse currently holds 12,023 sellable roofing companies, each graded against the roofing trade so supply stores and other businesses are left out. That is a count of the listings we have collected so far, not a census; the roofing lead list and the roofing statistics page show the live counts by state and city.

Who sells to roofing companies

Roofers are a popular niche for people who sell to local businesses. The main groups:

Each needs a slightly different list. An agency wants busy roofers with an email. A web designer wants the ones with no site or a dead one. An insurer wants new businesses. The selling to roofers use case has the filters for each.

One search-term trap

If you search the web for "roofing leads", you will mostly find companies selling homeowner jobs to roofers, not lists of roofers for people who sell to them. When we checked that results page on 3 November 2026 it was led by homeowner-lead sellers and roofing-software blogs. If you sell to roofers, the terms that match your intent are "roofing contractors email list", "list of roofing companies" and "roofing company owners".

What a roofing list looks like in our data

Live figures for roofing, as of 5 Nov 2026:

The gap between "has an email" and "has a verified email" is the most important line for a cold emailer, and it is why we show both.

How to reach the owner

Email, when there is a published address

Most roofing companies are small enough that the owner reads the company inbox, or is one forward away from it. A list builder who works the trades put it this way: "These businesses have money, they're bad at digital, and the decision maker is usually the owner who answers their own email" (r/coldemail).

Write to that owner:

Phone, for everyone else

Roofers without a website rarely publish an email, so the listed phone is the channel. Call during business hours. Expect the owner to be on a roof; leave a short message and call back rather than sending a string of texts.

Mail

A postcard or letter to the business address works for the no-website group and reaches owners who ignore email. It is slower and costs more per contact, so reserve it for the businesses that fit your offer best.

The Texas texting rule

Texting roofers deserves its own warning. Under federal rules, texts sent with an autodialer to a mobile number need prior express consent, and damages are $500 to $1,500 per text (47 USC 227). Many roofing numbers are the owner's mobile.

Texas adds a registration layer. Since 1 September 2025, Senate Bill 140 treats texts as telephone solicitations (SB 140), which requires a registration certificate with a $200 filing fee and a $10,000 security before soliciting a purchaser in Texas (§302.106, §302.107). The business-buyer exemption covers only buyers who resell the item or use it in manufacturing or recycling (§302.056), so an agency selling marketing to Dallas roofers does not fit it. Texas has more roofing establishments than any state but California in the Census table above, so this is not an edge case. Read our guide to whether buying an email list is legal, and take advice before texting.

Timing and seasonality

Roofing work is weather-driven, and owners are busiest when the weather allows work. That cuts both ways: a busy owner has the most cash and the least time. Short emails and voicemails that can be answered in one line do better than requests for a long call. If you sell something that saves time in season, sell it before the season.

A simple plan for your first 100 roofers

  1. Pick one metro and pull every roofing company there.
  2. Split the list into three: verified email, no website, everything else.
  3. Email the verified group with a short, specific note. Use the owner's name where you have it.
  4. Call the no-website group, starting with the best-reviewed.
  5. Mail the rest if your offer justifies it.
  6. Track replies by group, and after 100 contacts, double down on the group that answered.
