Selling to chiropractors: where the owner is the practitioner, and how to reach them

To sell to chiropractors, write to the chiropractor, not to "the business": the US Census Bureau counts 39,913 offices of chiropractors with paid employees (NAICS 621310, 2023), and about 99% have fewer than 20 employees, the highest small-business share of any trade we track in the 2023 Census data. The person who adjusts patients is usually the person who buys. Use their name when their site gives it, keep the pitch to one problem, and check the list for hospital departments and physical therapy clinics before you send.

The counts matter because list vendors disagree about them. A chiropractic marketer complained that one tool showed "only ~15k chiropractors total in the entire US, when the real number is closer to 70-80k licensed DCs" (r/coldemail). Licensed practitioners, establishments and listings are three different counts, so ask any vendor which one they mean.

The 67Leads warehouse holds 3,640 sellable chiropractic offices today, from public business listings and company websites. That is what we have collected, not a census. Live counts by state and city are on the chiropractor lead list and the chiropractor statistics page.

Who sells to chiropractors

The buyer is usually a practitioner-owner, which shapes who sells to them. One marketer described the niche as "service businesses where the owner is the practitioner" (r/coldemail). The main groups:

The selling to chiropractors use case has the search filters for each.

Why chiropractor lists go wrong

Two failures show up in buyers' own reports.

The wrong businesses. The same marketer ran a 420-email test and found one reply "was an auto-responder from a hospital chiropractic department" (r/coldemail). A hospital department cannot buy a practice-growth service. Neither can a chiropractic college or a medical supply store.

We grade every listing before it can be sold. Chiropractors and chiropractic clinics count as core. Physical therapists, massage therapists, acupuncturists and sports medicine clinics are kept but flagged as adjacent, because some buyers want them and some do not. Colleges, universities and supply stores are left out. Across what we have collected for this trade, 155 listings (4%) were graded off-trade and withheld, and 121 (3%) were kept as adjacent. If you only want chiropractors, filter adjacent rows out before you export.

The wrong inbox. A chiropractor's published email often goes to the front desk. That marketer's goal was "real owner level emails", which is the harder half of the job.

The review angle

A practice's review count is public, specific and easy to compare with the office down the road, which makes it a natural opening line. Today 192 chiropractic offices in our data (5%) have 9 reviews or fewer. And of the offices with a perfect 5.0, 8% rest on 9 reviews or fewer, so a perfect score is often a small sample. Our review stats by trade shows how this compares across trades.

For a review or reputation agency, the pitch writes itself from the listing: name the practice, its count, and the nearest competitor with more reviews. Keep it factual. Do not suggest buying reviews or gating them; offer a process for asking real patients.

How to reach the owner-chiropractor

Email

The National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) is a public federal file that lists an "Authorized Official" for healthcare organisations with an NPI (CMS NPPES files). At a one-doctor practice that is often the chiropractor. It is a free check on who signs.

Phone

Call the office line and ask the front desk when the doctor takes calls, then call back at that time rather than leaving a string of messages. Do not text practice numbers from a list: autodialed texts to a mobile need prior express consent under federal law, with damages of $500 to $1,500 per text (47 USC 227). Solo practitioners often list a personal mobile.

What the list holds

A chiropractor list holds the office's public business details and any email the office publishes on its own site. It holds no patient information. If your product touches patient records, take advice on that before you sell it; this guide does not cover it. For email itself, CAN-SPAM applies to business email too (FTC), and our guide on whether buying an email list is legal explains the basics.

A first campaign

  1. Pick one metro and pull every chiropractor there, adjacent rows filtered out.
  2. Remove anything that is not an independent office: hospital departments, colleges, multi-site chains you cannot sell to.
  3. Split into owner-named with a verified email, verified email only, and phone only.
  4. Write to the owner-named group by name, one outcome per email.
  5. Call the phone-only group at the time the front desk suggests.
  6. After 100 contacts, compare replies by group and keep the one that answered.
