These are counts of businesses in the 67Leads warehouse, built from public business listings and company websites across the cities we have covered so far, with listings that are another kind of business removed. They are not a census, and cities we have not covered are missing. For an official count of establishments by industry, see the US Census Bureau County Business Patterns (checked 4 Nov 2026).
Key findings
- As of 5 Nov 2026, 18% of the 134,345 US local businesses in the 67Leads warehouse list no website (24,610 businesses).
- By trade, the share with no website runs from 32% among tree service companies to 2% among law firms.
- Among states with at least 50 businesses, Wyoming has the highest no-website share (43%) and Maryland the lowest (9%).
- 10% of the 77,326 listed websites our crawler tried to load did not load at all (7,649 sites).
- 35% of businesses that publish an email on their own site use a free mailbox such as Gmail, Yahoo or Outlook rather than an address at their own domain (15,545 of 44,205).
- 6% of the businesses name an owner on their own website (7,996).
- Businesses with no website have a median of 6 Google reviews, against 55 for businesses with one; 39% of them have 10 or more.
- 1,843 businesses rated 4.5 stars or higher with 50 or more reviews still list no website.

Methodology
- Businesses: listings with a phone number, graded as on-trade, with opted-out businesses removed: 134,345 rows across 50 states and 6,800 cities. The same rule decides what the search and every export return.
- No website: the listing names no website. A business can have a site its listing does not link; it counts as no website here.
- Site down: of the 77,326 listed websites our crawler tried to load, no page loaded when checked. Sites not yet tried, or whose robots.txt asked us not to, are counted neither way. A site down today can be back tomorrow.
- Free mailbox: an email read from the company's own website whose domain is a consumer mailbox provider (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, iCloud, AOL, US internet-provider mail and similar), as a share of the 44,205 businesses with an email. It says nothing about whether the mailbox works; that is what SMTP verification measures.
- Owner named: an owner's name read from the company's own site, as a share of all businesses (a business with no website has no page to read it from).
- Reviews: the review count on the listing when last seen; a listing with none counts as 0. "Well reviewed" means rated 4.5 or higher with 50+ reviews.
- Sample rule: a share is printed only when the figure it is a share of has at least 50 businesses; 0 smaller trade or state cuts are left out. Percentages are rounded to the nearest whole percent; "under 1%" means at least one business.
