What is Google Business Profile?

A Google Business Profile is the free listing a business manages for its appearance in Google Search and Maps, with its name, phone, hours, website, rating and reviews.

Also called: GBP, Google My Business.

For most local businesses the profile is the most-seen page about them, often more than their own website. It shows the star rating and review count at a glance, and many profiles name no website at all.

For anyone selling to local businesses, the public parts of a profile are useful qualifying signals. No website suggests a web-design or online-booking pitch. A low rating with many reviews suggests reputation help. A strong rating with few reviews suggests a review-generation offer. These are observable facts, which makes the opening line of an email specific rather than generic.

Reviews are governed by Google's policies, which prohibit offering incentives such as free or discounted goods, services or payment in exchange for reviews. Asking every customer the same way, with a direct review link right after the job, stays inside them.

The Google review link generator makes that link, the Google rating calculator shows how many five-star reviews a target rating needs, and Google review statistics shows typical ratings by trade.

In our data: Of the 130,385 businesses in the 67Leads warehouse, 18% (23,942 of 130,385) list no website.
