What is Firmographics?

Firmographics are the descriptive facts about a company, such as industry, location, size, age and structure, used to segment and target businesses.

Also called: firmographic data.

Firmographics are to companies what demographics are to people. The common fields are industry (often as a NAICS or SIC code), location, number of employees, revenue, years in business, ownership (independent, franchise, chain) and number of locations.

For selling to local businesses, the most reliable firmographics are often the simplest and most observable: the trade, the city and state, whether the business has a website, whether that site loads, its review count and rating. Employee counts and revenue for small private businesses are usually modelled estimates, so treat them as ranges.

Firmographics are the raw material for an ideal customer profile and for lead scoring. They also size a market: the US Census Bureau's County Business Patterns publishes official establishment counts by industry and county, which is the honest ceiling on any vendor's coverage.

The market size calculator turns a trade, a place and a price into a yearly market from the businesses 67Leads holds, and businesses by state ranks every state by those businesses per 100,000 residents.

In our data: The 67Leads warehouse holds 134,345 US local businesses across 50 states and 6,800 cities, each with a phone, graded against its trade.
