Methodology and sample size
- Businesses: Google Maps listings with a phone number, graded as on-trade, with opted-out businesses removed (98,511 rows across 50 states and 6,579 cities).
- Checked: listed websites our crawler tried to load (68,068 of 79,363). Sites not yet tried, or whose robots.txt asked us not to, are counted neither way.
- Down: no page of the site loaded when checked (10,920). A site can be down for a day and back the next; this is a snapshot.
- Sample rule: a row is shown only when the figure it is a share of has at least 50 businesses behind it; 0 smaller cuts are left out.
- Percentages are rounded to the nearest whole percent; "under 1%" means at least one business but less than half a percent.
