How this works and where the data comes from

Every figure is computed from the 67Leads warehouse when the page is served: public Google Maps listings for the trade, graded against it (off-trade listings removed), with a phone number, and not opted out. That is the same set of rows the 67Leads search counts. The rating and review count are the listing's own, refreshed each time the listing is re-scraped.

A listing with no reviews has no rating, so it is left out of the rating median, average and histogram, and counted in the review-count percentiles and the "no reviews yet" share. Percentiles are interpolated (Postgres percentile_cont). "Top 10%" is the 90th percentile review count, rounded up to a whole review. A benchmark is shown only when it rests on at least 20 rated businesses; smaller groups point to the state or national figure. These are the businesses 67Leads holds, which can be fewer than every business that exists.

Questions

How many Google reviews does a business need?

Across the 107,482 US local businesses 67Leads lists, the median has 34 Google reviews, the top quarter has 129 or more and the top 10% has 398 or more. What matters is your own trade and city; type them above to see that benchmark.

What is a good Google rating for a contractor?

Among 101,000 rated US local businesses, the median rating is 4.9 and 88% are rated 4.5 or higher. 5% are under 4.0, so a rating under 4.0 is in the bottom 5%.

Why are businesses with no reviews left out of the average rating?

A listing with no reviews has no rating at all, not a zero. Counting it as zero would drag every average down, so it is excluded from rating figures and counted in the review percentiles and the no-reviews share instead.

Where do these numbers come from?

From public Google Maps listings in the 67Leads warehouse, graded against the trade, computed when the page is served. They are not a survey.

How often is this updated?

The page is recomputed at most every ten minutes. A listing's rating and review count change whenever it is re-scraped, and the Updated date is the day the page was served.
